Why is it important that my pet has an examination or blood tests done yearly?

Animals have multiple body systems, and each system may develop into serious problems or chronic pain. It is important to detect these problems as early as possible in your pet’s life. Early Detection and treatment often improve management or cures especially with cancer, obesity, and dental disease.

What age should I have my puppy or kitten spayed or neutered?

Typically, most pets can be safely sterilized (spayed-female, neutered-male) at six months of age. Some of the larger breed dogs, based on current studies of Golden Retrievers and Labrador Retrievers, may benefit from waiting until they reach an older age of 10-12 months. If you have questions regarding the age in which your pet should be sterilized, please ask the veterinarian.

How important is nutrition for my pet?

Similar to human food intake, a diet that is low in fat and high in protein is essential to the life of your pet. Eastside Animal Hospital offers the newest and most efficient food for your pet available today. We can custom fit a diet to your specific pet's needs.

How safe is my pet’s procedure?

Each individual procedure will vary from pet to pet and condition to condition. Typically, a physical examination, review of the patients' medical history and blood work are recommended for each pet that may have to be subjected to sedation or anesthesia. Our trained staff monitors physically and with equipment during the procedure to notice any changes quickly, and adjustments are made. As with humans, the older the individual the more precautions need to be taken. Rest assured our medical team takes the greatest care of all patients.
